During this year’s Tyler Ugolyn Memorial Basketball Tournament, which concluded over the weekend, two Our Lady of Fatima Academy students – Lauren Davis and Connor Bowron — were given the Tyler Ugolyn Award. These awards are earned annually by one female and one male basketball player who show character, teamwork, and sportsmanship on court and off, reports The Hour.
The awards honor the memory of Tyler Ugolyn, who graduated from Our Lady of Fatima in 1993. Ugolyn, a nationally ranked basketball player, was killed in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.
“The tournament and these awards are a very special tradition at OLF. Connor and Lauren join a long line of past recipients who keep Tyler’s amazing spirit alive,” the school’s athletic director, Rob Benedetto, told the crowd.
