John Vigiano, Sr., a legendary FDNY captain, was honored posthumously with a street named for him in his hometown of Deer Park, reports Long Island News 12.
A length of Long Island Avenue has been renamed for Captain Vigiano, a decorated fire officer who served with the FDNY from 1962 until 1998. He worked the recovery efforts after the terrorist attacks of 2001 in which both his sons, John Jr., an FDNY firefighter; and Joseph, an NYPD detective, were killed.
Captain Vigiano died in 2018 of site-related cancer.
