Sixth, seventh and eighth graders at St. Patrick School in Decatur, IL celebrated Mardi Gras with a float-making contest to raise money for a new memorial to those murdered by terrorists on September 11, 2001 reported Valerie Wells in the Herald & Review.
The memorial will be built in Nelson Park on the shore of Lake Decatur. It will feature a 13-foot piece of steel from the World Trade Center that has visible remains of a file cabinet embedded in it.
“If there’s anything that deserves support, it’s a 9/11 memorial,” said the school’s principal, Jan Sweet.
