A small fire broke out in an underground parking garage that is under construction at the World Trade Center site Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
A welder’s torch ignited construction materials about 2:15pm in the sub-basement at 130 Liberty St. at Greenwich Street, the site of the former Deutsche Bank building, the FDNY and Port Authority said.
Port Authority workers partly extinguished the plywood that had caught fire, and then some 60 firefighters brought the fire under control by 3:00pm, the FDNY said.
No one was hurt, officials said.
The fire broke out in the underground area that will house the Vehicle Security Center, where cars, buses and delivery trucks will be screened to enter a parking garage and loading docks.
In 2007, the Deutsche Bank building was the site of a blaze that killed two firefighters.
