As politicians from both parties call for a “9/11-style” investigation into the January 6, 2021 riot at the United States Capitol, reporter Michael S. Rosenwald of the Washington Post reminds us that the 9/11 Commission’s investigation was marred by politics.
The chair and vice chair of the 9/11 Commission, Thomas H. Kean and Lee H. Hamilton, wrote a book in 2006 about their attempts to investigate the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The first chapter of that book, Without Precedent: The Inside Story of the 9/11 Commission, read, “Set up to fail”.
