One World Trade Center attempted a show of solidarity with the victims of the terrorist attacks in Brussels last night, but lit its spire in red, white and blue instead of black, red and yellow, the colors of the Belgian flag, writes Kalhan Rosenblatt for the Daily Mail.
Yesterday, New York’s governor, Andrew Cuomo, said, “Tonight, One World Trade Center will be displayed in black, yellow and red as we stand in solemn solidarity with the people of Belgium, just as they have done for us in the past.”
Other major monuments around the world fared better. Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate, the Eiffel Tower and the Trevi fountain all shone in black, yellow and red. The Empire State Building remained entirely black.
