Staten Island’s beautiful Postcard Memorial honoring the Staten Island residents killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks, has grown shabby and cracked due to its waterfront location and other factors, but the city has committed to maintenance and repairs, reports Kristin F. Dalton for the Staten Island Advance.
The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) controls the memorial.
A cleaning crew will maintain the Postcards 9/11 Memorial and the nearby small park daily Monday through Friday from May until October, emptying trash bins and maintaining the plants. During the weekends, the site will be looked after less often. Monthly pressure washes will also be instigated.
Special care will be taken of the memorial as the anniversary of the attacks approaches.
