Children of fallen FDNY firefighters go on holiday shopping spree

Children of fallen FDNY firefighters visited FAO Schwartz and met with Santa during the annual holiday shopping event  sponsored by the FDNY Uniformed Firefighters Association.

Approximately 100 children attended this year. The Uniformed Firefighters Association has made it happen for 41 years.

Jack McNamara lost his father, FF John McNamara to World Trade Center-related cancer in 2009.

“It gives us a sense of family. We kind of feel loved in this environment. At home we don’t have fathers, so having father figures here makes us feel more loved and at home,” he told Kiran Dhillon of PIX11.

In France, victims’ fund struggles to heal terrorism’s traumas

Families of the 86 people killed in the 2016 Nice terrorist attack in which a huge truck was slammed into a group of people, are facing bureaucracy and more heartache as the trial continues.

Célia Viale, who lost her mother in the attack, told judges. “I’m not considered a victim. It seems that having your mother crushed by a 19-ton truck in an attack is not a reason for a traumatic grief,” reports Constant Méheut for the New York Times.
