New treatment destroys head and neck cancer tumours in trial

A new clinical trial in the United Kingdom using a “cocktail” of cancer medications has completely destroyed head and neck tumours for some patients with terminal cancer, writes Andrew Gregory for the Guardian.

Experts believe that combining immunotherapy drugs could significantly help people with advanced forms of skin, colon, and kidney cancers too.

The combination treatment also reduces side effects.

Further studies will be done, but this treatment seems promising.

Restoring the Firemen’s Memorial

The Firemen’s Memorial in Riverside Park is being restored.

Water and lime damage and some cracks that have appeared on the 108-year-old monument will be repaired over the coming months, due to the kindness of an anonymous donor, reports Gabriella Ferrigine for Our Town NY.

BP Oddo announces funding for permanent lighting improvements at Postcards Memorial

The faulty lighting at the Staten Island Postcards 9/11 Memorial now has funding for permanent repairs.

Over the years, saltwater from the Memorial’s waterside location has damaged the underground lighting. Temporary sources were used at this year’s anniversary ceremony, but a permanent solution will be built soon. The timeline will be announced shortly, reports Roger Guevara for the Staten Island Advance.
