Pond built in memory of NJ State Trooper Bryan McCoy who died from 9/11-related cancer

A memorial pond has been built by volunteers over three days to honor NJ State Trooper Bryan McCoy, who died in 2019 of World Trade Center-glioblastoma. Glioblastoma is a rare and lethal brain cancer that is tragically common among World Trade Center recovery workers.

McCoy had long wanted to build a pond for his wife, but his illness prevented him from doing so.

Bruno Maegerle, who owns a business called Pond Pros, did not know Mr. McCoy, but organized the pond-building event, reports Karen Knight of the Cape May County Herald. Thirty companies from several different states came together to build the pond at little to no cost to the McCoy family.

Bryan McCoy’s dreams were to be a father and to be a NJ State Trooper; he achieved both dreams before his death at 57. Trooper McCoy had four biological children and adopted a fifth child from Russia. The McCoys also housed foreign exchange students for years.

Arlington National Cemetery expands, 9/11 Memorial to be built

Construction will soon begin on the expansion of Arlington National Cemetery. More than 70 acres will be added to the graveyard, with space for 60,000 more graves, and local roads will be improved. Burials can then continue at Arlington until the 2050s.

Ultimately, with a 2025 opening date, the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial Visitor Education Center will be built, writes Stephanie Shipman for the Northern Virginia Magazine.

The cemetery expansion will be made first, beginning in late 2023, then construction on the Pentagon Visitor Education Center will begin.
