Sixteen years later, thirty thousand people followed the footsteps of FDNY Firefighter Stephen Siller, who ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel in full gear to reach the World Trade Center where he was killed during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, reports Tracey Porpora in the Staten Island Advance.
Siller’s siblings created the Tunnel to Towers 5-K Run/Walk to honor their baby brother and raise funds to build “smart” houses for severely wounded veterans, help children and help hurricane victims.
