A Flight 587 memorial service was held at 116th Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard to pay tribute to the victims of the crash in Belle Harbor, Queens on November 12, 2001. Five people on the ground died in the crash, as well as the 251 passengers and 9 crew members aboard the plane.
The plane went down at 9:15am, shortly after takeoff, reports WABC News.
A faulty rudder was blamed for the crash.
