The inquest on the June 3, 2017 London Bridge terrorist attack is underway. The eight people killed in the attack by car and knife were all dead within the first three minutes, the court learned. Forty-eight more people were seriously injured.
Three terrorists first mowed people down with a rented van, then leapt out of the vehicle wearing phony suicide vests and stabbed people as they ran, reports Vikram Dodd for the Guardian. Of the eight people killed, two were struck by the van; the others were stabbed to death.
The inquest will probably be the only time when families of victims can ask questions of the authorities.
Killed in the attack were Christine Archibald, James McMullan, Alexandre Pigeard, Sébastien Bélanger, Kirsty Boden, Sara Zelenak, Xavier Thomas, and Ignacio Echeverría.
