Plans to expand Arlington National Cemetery by 70 acres, or 60,000 burial plots, are underway. The new acreage will include a new above-ground columbarium and make the Air Force Memorial part of the cemetery.
Eminent domain allowed the government to acquire land from Arlington County.
Streets along the cemetery’s edge will be widened and parking, bike paths and walkways will be built.
A separate project, the visitor center for the Pentagon’s 9/11 Memorial, is also moving ahead, reports Arlington Now.
