In support of this historic anniversary, HandsOn Greater DC Cares will pay tribute by engaging volunteers throughout the region. Our community will honor those touched by 9/11 by engaging in service projects at nonprofit veteran facilities, local schools and community based organizations.
Last year, HandsOn Greater DC Cares successfully led over 7,500 volunteers in service, making our event one of the largest single 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance events in the country.
This year, on Friday, September 7th, Saturday, September 8th HandsOn Greater DC Cares will mobilize thousands of corporate and community volunteers to address critical issues and rekindle the spirit of service that emerged to support so many following September 11.
Last year’s projects included:
- Beautifying a domestic violence center
- Creating comfort quilts for children of deployed service men and women
- Revitalizing a playground at a local homeless shelter
- Restoring the grounds of an historic cemetery
- Interacting with retired veterans and seniors at residential facilities and retirement homes
Volunteers will have the opportunity to engage in community service in large and small groups for approximately 3 hours in length. Corporate sponsors can choose to serve on Friday or Saturday during the 2 community day of service. This will give you and your staff the opportunity to choose the best time to honor the day through service. In addition to engaging in service that builds capacity for area nonprofits, event sponsors will also benefit from various visibility opportunities.
Become an individual or company sponsor and join us in service to others and make sure your 9/11 is a day of service, and not just another day.
