Conrad Sipa has been found guilty of murder in the death of retired FDNY Lt. Richard Doody, 60, who was beaten and stabbed to death in 2015, reports Joseph Ostapiuk for the Staten Island Advance.
Lt. Doody had a 29-year career with the FDNY, beginning in Brooklyn with E-239/L-105, and ending at Staten Island’s L-84. He worked for several weeks at the site of the World Trade Center after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. He also taught at the Fire Academy.
After a rescue for which he was honored, Lt. Doody told reporters, “Eleven thousand guys would have done exactly what I did. To be recognized for it, I’m kind of embarrassed, to tell you the truth. It’s nice to be honored but it’s not necessary. We do what we do out of love for what we do.”
Sipa will be sentenced on June 14, 2019. He faces a sentence of life in prison.
