Cobb County (GA) Firefighter Ralph A. Brown II will receive the 2018 Ray Downey Courage and Valor Award by unanimous vote, reports Carolyn Cunningham for AJC. Brown hung upside down from a helicopter with his head underwater to rescue a teenager from drowning last October in High Falls State Park.
The Ray Downey Courage and Valor Award is named for legendary FDNY Deputy Chief Ray Downey, 63, who was killed responding to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
The award will be given in Indianapolis during the opening ceremony of the Fire Department Instructors Conference on April 25, 2018.
