The names of 13 FDNY firefighters and EMS workers who died from illnesses related to work at Ground Zero on or after 9/11 were added to the World Trade Center Memorial Wall at FDNY headquarters Thursday.
The heroic 13 brought to 89 the memorial’s list of FDNY members who have succumbed to illnesses that stemmed from work at the toxic site or as part of debris disposal operations.
The September 11, 2001, attacks killed 343 firefighters outright.
“I still see our families grieving, far too many of our members still suffering, and I see that terrible day continues to take far too many of the very best among us,” Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro said.
