The terrorist who had been sentenced to death for the 2002 murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl is going to be released from prison by order of Pakistan’s supreme court. Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh’s sentence was commuted from execution to seven years last year, despite protests from the Sindh state government of Pakistan and Pearl’s family.
Three others jailed for the killing have been acquitted, report Hannah Ellis-Petersen and Shah Meer Baloch for the Guardian.
