The Springfield Massachusetts 9/11 Monument, a steel beam from the World Trade Center and a bronze memorial tablet, is now the property of the city of Springfield, reports Paul Tuthill for WAMC Northeast Report.
Since its dedication in June, the Monument has been on public display at Riverfront Park.
Spirit of Springfield, a non-profit group, funded and built the memorial and now has gifted it to the city. Their plan was always to do so.
The city will pay the “minimal” costs involved in maintaining the memorial; and Springfield’s annual September 11th memorial ceremony will be held at the riverside site.
