In a recent speech, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos says that many new FBI agents do not have knowledge about the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

The Justice Department is refusing to release a classified government report dating from 2016 that contains all the knowledge the US has about the attacks. One of the major revelations within that report is the name of a conspirator in the attacks who is still free. FBI records show that this person gave orders to two of the 9/11 hijackers. 

Sites where tragic events happened have always attracted visitors. The phenomenon is now known as “dark tourism” and is common — people want to see Auschwitz, the former World Trade Center site, Gettysburg, the Colosseum, and other sites with grim histories.

Hannah Sampson of The Washington Post spoke with professors who study tourism to find out why.
