Germany’s Chancellor, Angela Merkel, has called the Berlin Christmas market attack in which 12 people were killed and more than 50 injured a terrorist attack, report Alison Smale and Melissa Eddy of the New York Times.
“We must assume at the current time that it was a terrorist attack,” Ms. Merkel was quoted as saying in the article. “I know that it would be particularly difficult for all of us to bear if it is confirmed that this deed was carried out by a person who sought protection and asylum in Germany.”
The investigation continues.
