ELYRIA TOWNSHIP, OHIO — Elyria Township’s 9/11 Memorial Committee is selling personalized paver bricks to help fund its $30,000 memorial.
The township acquired a steel fragment of a World Trade Center box beam more than a year ago. The township’s trustees wanted a way to display the fragment and came up with the idea to create a memorial. The memorial was designed by Gary Fujka, a former Elyria Township resident who now operates Fujka Designs in New York City.
The memorial is expected to be constructed near the parking lot at Rowland Nature Preserve on Murray Ridge Road.
The $30,000 will go toward the memorial, walkways, benches and landscaping.
Donors can purchase two types of bricks, according to township officials. A 4-inch by 8-inch costs $50 and allows up to three lines of text. The 8-inch by 8-inch is $100 and allows up to six lines.
Organizations and individuals can donate $1,000 to get a concrete planter or $1,500 for a concrete bench. Both will be placed near the memorial walkway and will include a bronze plaque.

The order forms for the pavers also will be included in a newsletter to be mailed out to township residents on April 15.
