LONG BEACH ISLAND – The family of a September 11 victim has been reunited with an item dedicated to his memory that was lost during Hurricane Sandy.
Several benches sit at a park in Long Beach Island; they’re dedicated to the memory of September 11 victims from the area. Among them is a bench memorializing Chris Cramer who was killed in the twin towers. The bench honoring Cramer was ripped up and swept away during the storm.
Cramer’s family would often visit the bench to feel close to him, but after Sandy hit, they’d resigned to losing it for good.
Thankfully, when the bench ended up in Forked River, the person who found it posted it onto Facebook in an attempt to find its rightful owner. Ultimately, the Cramer family was reunited with the bench and with their connection to Chris.
The Internet and social media, particularly Facebook, have been an effective tool in reuniting people with items lost during the storm.
