Hurricane Sandy Relief: How you can help

Some September 11th organizations with Hurricane Sandy relief funds are:

The Firefighter Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is donating to Hurricane Sandy relief. They have experience with hurricane relief, having done a great deal of good after Hurricane Katrina. Stephen Siller and his family are from Staten Island, site of some of Sandy’s worst damage, but helps Sandy victims all over the region. To donate, please click here.

The Graybeards are a community group formed after the terrorist attacks in the Rockaways. Their mission has always been to care for their neighbours in time of need. They have also been enormously helpful to wounded warriors. Their Hurricane Sandy relief fund will go 100% to hurricane relief in Breezy Point and the Rockaways. Please visit them here.

Our friends at New York Says Thank You are also working toward hurricane relief. Please mark your donation “HURRICANE SANDY RELIEF.”

The Carl Vincent Bini Fund has set up a Hurricane Sandy fund for their neighbours in Staten Island and have promised to help with recovery for at least two years. Find it here.

The Robin Hood Foundation usually focuses their efforts helping the poor. Those are their special focus in Hurricane relief, too. Find them here.

Donate directly to small businesses impacted by Sandy at Smallknot, a crowdfunding site. Read their Hurricane Sandy-related success stories here.

A note from our friends at HEART 9/11 –
HEART 9/11 has received pleas for our unique skills from friends and fellow first responders in the hard hit areas of the Jersey Shore, Hoboken, Staten Island, Rockaways and the southern shores of Long Island. We are already serving the people of Wantagh and just recently expanded to the Rockaways and in the next few days to Staten Island. We are working with Bank of America to mobilize our military veteran community to assist in this recovery and Mr. Gary LaBarbara, President of the Building Trades of Greater New York, has assured us a talented steady volunteer work force in addition to our NYPD and FDNY veterans.

Many charities are providing shelter, clothing and food but HEART 9/11 is putting their expertise on the ground to give hurricane victims immediate help to fix their problems in addition to the other organizations that are temporarily making them comfortable. We are removing the water from inside homes, removing the wet wood, sheet rock and furniture and treating all exposed framing with mold disinfectant.

We will be updating our members and supporters with volunteer information as it becomes available. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people in these hard hit communities.

Keep safe.

Founder/President H.E.A.R.T. 9/11
