Retired Army Colonel Rick Rescorla, who was killed saving thousands of Morgan Stanley employees as their head of security on September 11, 2001, has been awarded a posthumous Presidential Citizens Medal.

Rescorla, a decorated Vietnam veteran, was vice president for corporate security at Morgan Stanley, on the South Tower’s 44th floor He ordered the roughly 2,700 employees to evacuate and assisted them in doing so. He left the building, called his wife Susan and said,”Stop crying, I have to get these people out safely. If something happens to me, I want you to know I’ve never been happier. You made my life.” Then he went back into the doomed building, where he was killed.

Morgan Stanley lost 6 employees out the the thousands in the tower, largely due to Rescorla, reports Katie Kausch for Morristown Patch.
