‘A dream come true’: Son of Firefighter Paul Tegtmeier killed on 9/11 gears up for career with the FDNY

FDNY Probationary Firefighter Aric Tegtmeier graduates from the fire academy this week, following in the footsteps of his father, Firefighter Paul Tegtmeier, who was killed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

The younger Tegtmeier was only 6 when his father was killed. He had wanted the job even before his father was killed.

“It’s a dream come true. I don’t think the full effect has hit me yet. Maybe when I walk the stage it will,” he told Thomas Tracy of the New York Daily News.
