Hundreds of NYPD and FDNY members are also serving overseas

This week’s death of FDNY FF Christopher Slutman, a United States Marine serving in Afghanistan, has made people realize how many of our public servants serve in more ways than one, reports Dean Meminger for NY1.

At present, 316 members of the NYPD and FDNY are on leave in order to serve in the military. Hundreds more are veterans or reservists.
