Meet 3 women who are comforting families of 9/11 illness sufferers

Diane Pryor-Holland, who lost her husband, NYPD Officer Richard Holland, to World Trade Center-related kidney cancer; Dolores Weiner, who lost her brother, Thomas, to 9/11-related illness; and Bertha Merriweather, mother to NYPD Detective Tommy Merriweather, who also died of illness related to his service after the terrorist attacks, help other NYPD families dealing with site-related illness by making them quilts.

Their group is called Helping Our Post-9/11 Survivors or H.O.P.S. They plan to make a quilt for every NYPD family with a death from World Trade Center-related illness.

“Take it, wrap yourself in it, remember your loved one, remember us, that we’re all a family,” Weiner told New York 1’s Michael Scotto.
