9/11 first responder in NC worries about toxic exposures: ‘You’re a ticking time bomb’

Retired NYPD detective Chuck McLiverty now lives in North Carolina. He talked to reporter Ben Smart of WECT about health problems he and other relocated recovery workers are facing. While his health problems are currently minor compared to many others, he knows that may not always be the case.

“You don’t know every time you go to your yearly test what’s gonna show up. It’s like you’re a ticking time bomb. Am I going to get bad news this year?” he said.

As president of the Wilmington [North Carolina] 10-13 Club, McLiverty regularly encounters other recovery workers with the same problems.
