PAPD cop, firefighter, die of 9/11-related illnesses

Retired Port Authority Police Lieutenant John Brant, 61, died of World Trade Center-related esophageal and stomach cancer on July 19, 2018. His illness was diagnosed on Memorial Day weekend. Although he was fit and healthy, an avid baseball player, cyclist, and marathon runner, he rapidly deteriorated, reported Thomas Tracy for the NY Daily News.

Lt. Brant joined the rescue and recovery effort at Ground Zero on September 12, 2001, and remained at the site through December 2001. He retired from the PAPD in 2014.

Retired FDNY Firefighter Charles Williams, formerly of Ladder Company 111 in Bed-Stuy, died of site-related illness earlier this week.

He joined the FDNY in September 1977 spending most of his career at L-111. His father and brother were members of the same firehouse.

FF Williams retired in 2002.
