Families of Flight 93, the National Park Service and the National Park Foundation have arranged for the transfer of the final pieces of United Flight 93 to be buried at the private crash site area of the Flight 93 National Memorial.
Wreckage has been stored securely since the FBI finished its investigation into the crash. Its burial, slated for later this year, will not be a public event.
Families of Flight 93 President Gordon Felt told reporter Michelle Ganassi of the Daily American, “Knowing that the wreckage is buried within the sacred ground is important. It is where our loved ones lost their lives and it is important to get this wreckage back where it belongs.”
Later this year, the National Park Service will present a report of the final items collected and discuss its plans for those items.
