A Hurricane Harvey health registry has been launched by the Houston Health Department, Rice University and the Environmental Defense Fund. The registry is modeled on the World Trade Center Health Registry, that tracks the health issues faced by more than 71,000 people whose health has been affected by the terrorist attacks of 9/11, reports Todd Ackerman of the Houston Chronicle.
A number of those exposed to flood waters, mold and contamination from Hurricane Harvey have experienced health issues.
The Harvey registry is the first attempt to gather and maintain health information about environmental exposures following a U.S. flood.
The application process for the Hurricane Harvey Registry is a 10-minute online survey. Those over 18 are eligible.
Organizers of the Hurricane Harvey Registry ask Houstonians to take the survey even if they were not affected by Harvey for comparison purposes. All information stored in the registry will be kept private.
