TSA bomb-sniffing dogs, which are critical to the city’s safety, should remain, Schumer says

The Transportation Security Administration (the TSA) has suggested that local and state governments should pay for explosive detection dogs, as the TSA is underfunded, reports Alison Fox for AMNY.

Senator Chuck Schumer and Governor Andrew Cuomo have criticized the proposal.

There are 31 canine explosives teams in the U.S.; the largest one is New York City’s, which has 30 dogs currently funded by the TSA. The dogs patrol rail stations, airports, large events, and other sites around the city.
