The Transportation Security Administration is testing a device that can detect a suicide bomber in Washington, DC, Los Angeles, and New Jersey, ignoring New York, reports Max Jaeger in the NY Post.
An SPO-NX device can find metal and objects such as suicide vests from a distance. SPO-NX testing was developed in 2004 and was used at Washington’s Union Station around Thanksgiving and in New Jersey during the playing of the 2014 Super Bowl.
The TSA announced the testing in other cities, not New York, two days after a would-be suicide bomber attacked the Port Authority Bus Terminal on December 11. The TSA offered no reason for refusing to test in New York.
Senator Schumer is trying to persuade the TSA to use SPO-NX in New York City.
