What not to do in a disaster

John Leach is both a psychologist at the University of Portsmouth and a survivor of the King’s Cross tube fire in 1987. He estimates that in an emergency as many as 80-90 percent of people make mistakes that could endanger their lives. He says survival is less about heroic actions than avoiding mindless mistakes, reports Zaria Gorvett of the BBC.
