‘I struggled a long time’: Oklahoma City firefighter in iconic photo retires

The Oklahoma City firefighter who held the body of Baylee Almon, 1, killed in the Oklahoma City bombing in the Pulitzer Prize-winning photograph is retiring after more than 30 years on the job, reports A. Pawlowski in Today.

Chris Fields retired this month after 31 years, 7 months and 16 days at the Oklahoma City Fire Department.

He battled post-traumatic stress disorder, but is now healthy. Having the photo become so famous made it worse for him, as he felt singled out. He warns other firefighters and rescue workers to care for their mental health.
