Retired FDNY Firefighter Jimmy Martinez is in remission from his battle with World Trade Center-related multiple myeloma. In gratitude to the FDNY Fire Family Transport Foundation, he donated a 10-seat transport van to the charity, report Edgar Sandoval and Larry McShane of the New York Daily News.
The FDNY Fire Family Transport Foundation has donated vans and off-duty FDNY volunteer drivers to transport sick and injured FDNY members to treatments.
“As firefighters continue to get sick, this vehicle will become more important every day,” Martinez said.
“I had a lot on my plate. Fortunately, I didn’t have to worry about transportation and parking. There were times when I needed to make four trips a week for treatment.”
