Bill Butler of the FDNY barely escaped on September 11, 2001 when terrorists attacked the World Trade Center. After being trapped in the rubble for hours, Butler found himself in pain most of the time, reports Michael Kaplan in the NY Post.
Butler endured continual pain in his hip for years. Now he is pain-free, thanks to a robot.
Dr. Nakul Karkare, an orthopedic surgeon and joint-replacement specialist, treated Butler with a robotic arm called Mako which allows customization of the joint and longer lasting replacements.
“It is much more accurate than a human can be,” says Karkare.
Butler is now an FDNY captain with the Marine Division.
