Victory Sports in Castleton Corners is closing after 51 years, writes Gracelyn Santos in the Staten Island Advance.
For the last 25 years, the sporting goods store has been owned by George Siller. Siller, a life-long sports fan, bought the store after seeing it when his brother, Firefighter Stephen Siller, recommended the diner next to Victory Sports. While waiting outside for a table at the busy diner, Siller fell in love with the store.
Firefighter Stephen Siller was killed in the line of duty during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. George Siller and his five siblings began the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation in honor of their youngest brother.
