Gordon Felt, Christine “Kiki” Homer, Harold Liles, Dale Nacke, Emily Root Schenkel, and Patrick White, all of whom are family members of passengers or crew members of United Flight 93, are running the New York City Marathon to raise money for the Tower of Voices at the Flight 93 National Memorial, reports Vicki Rock in the Somerset County Daily American.
The Tower of Voices is the only uncompleted part of the Flight 93 National Memorial. It will be a 93-foot tall wind chime of 40 instruments, one for each of those killed aboard Flight 93.Each of the 40 chimes will “speak” in a different note. Its cost is estimated to be $400,000. The Families of Flight 93 hope to raise $17,500 with the marathon fundraiser. Their fundraising page can be found here.
“We want to be responsible for the chimes because they represent the voices of our loved ones,” said Gordon Felt, president of Families of Flight 93.
The Tower of Voices should be completed by September 11, 2018.
