President Barack Obama vetoed the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA) on Friday. JASTA would allow victims of terrorism to sue state-sponsored supporters of attacks reports Kevin Liptak of CNN.
Both Republican and Democratic Congressional leaders say they’ll override the veto. JASTA overwhelmingly passed in both the House and the Senate.
JASTA would end other countries’ US immunity from lawsuits if they were implicated in terror attacks, allowing federal civil suits to go forward.
Under JASTA, families of September 11th victims could sue Saudi Arabian officials.
