After a long journey, FDNY Captain Vernon Richard will finally get a school named for him in his native Brooklyn. Captain Richard, who was killed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, will be honored on June 30 when the FDNY High School in East New York changes its name to the Capt. Vernon A. Richard HS for Fire & Life Safety.
Ginger Adams Otis reports in the New York Daily News that the Richard family began their search for a city school that would take his name nearly 10 years ago.
