The names of two men who died last year of World Trade Center-related illnesses will be added to the Rockland County Police Memorial this weekend.
NYPD Lt. Luis Lopez and Deputy U.S. Marshal Zacarias Toro both responded to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Both were 50 years old, reports Robert Brum in the Lower Hudson Journal News.
Toro died on June 14, 2015, just a week after he was awarded the U.S. Marshals Service’s Purple Heart Award. He was suffering from site-related prostate cancer.
Lopez was diagnosed with lung disease in 2012 and died June 26, 2015.
May 22 will be Deputy United States Marshal Zacarias Toro and New York City Police Department Lt. Luis Lopez Day as part of National Police Week observances.
