Michael Dale of Broadway World reports that the new musical Come from Away has released a new teaser for its Ford’s Theatre opening. Come from Away uses a small cast playing multiple roles to tell the story of how, on September 11, 2001, 38 commercial airliners and their 6,579 passengers landed in the tiny town of Gander, Newfoundland, doubling the population of the town and how the town welcomed the stranded people with open arms.
Come from Away had successful runs at Seattle Rep, San Diego’s La Jolla Playhouse, and Toronto’s Royal Alexandra Theatre. It will play Ford’s Theatre in Washington DC from September 2, 2016 to October 9, 2016. A Broadway opening is planned for spring 2017.
Creative staff – book, music and lyrics by Irene Sankoff & David Hein, director Christopher Ashley, choreographed by Kelly Devine, scenic design by Beowulf Boritt, costume design by Toni-Leslie James, lighting design by Howell Binkley, sound design by Gareth Owen, and music supervision by Ian Eisendrath.
