Michael Balsamo of the Associated Press writes of the death on Friday, April 8, 2016 of Dr. Charles Hirsch, 79, who ran New York City’s Office of the Medical Examiner for more than twenty years.
Dr. Hirsch went to the World Trade Center on hearing of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. He was injured but was one of the builders of a temporary morgue. Under his watch, the medical examiner’s office worked for years to identify the fragmented remains of the 2,749 victims.
