Virginia school may be renamed for September 11th victim Alysia C. Burton Basmajian

Elliott Robinson of the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported on March 24, 2016 that the Harry F. Byrd Middle School will be renamed.

The most prevalent suggestions for the school’s new name include that of 9/11 victim Alysia C. Burton Basmajian, who attended Byrd and was killed at Cantor Fitzgerald during the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. The young mother was 23.

The school division will accept name suggestions until early April.

A petition to name the school for Ms. Burton Basmajian with more information about her can be found here.
