After a number of embarrassing security gaffes, Transportation Security Administration Administrator Peter Neffenger discusses a new training facility and new training methods for TSA agents, writes Keith Laing in The Hill on February 11, 2016.
A 2015 report from the Homeland Security Department showed that in 67 of 70 tests in which undercover agents tried to pass through security with prohibited items, including an agent with a fake bomb strapped to his back who was allowed through security even after a pat-down.
Neffenger is determined to change that with the new training facility. Before he led the agency, “we were focusing on moving people through rather than stopping people who shouldn’t get through,” he said.
