Qi Xijia in the November 24 edition of the Global Times tells of the awards that the 2015 recipients of the Jérôme Lohez 9/11 Scholarship Foundation received from Axel Cruau, the Consul General of France in Shanghai.
Dening Lohez, the widow of Jérôme Robert Lohez, 30, one of five French nationals killed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, established the Scholarship Foundation in her late husband’s memory to promote educational and cultural exchanges between the US, France and China.
“Following the terrorist attacks in Paris, Lohez said her concern about cross-cultural understanding has been renewed. “It made me rethink my foundation’s mission and meaning. What does international education exchange mean? I think it means to foster curiosity so that students can search for common values.”
