Diane DiGiacomo, 52, was working as a special investigator for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals on September 11, 2001. In the days after the attacks, she and her colleagues rescued pets from apartments near the World Trade Center — apartments evacuated due to the terrorist attacks.
She now has site-related Stage 4 breast cancer that has spread to her brain and bones. An article in the November 16, 2015 Daily News by Laura Bult and Rich Schapiro tells her story.
